Digestive enzymes bind with food particles to enhance the reactions necessary to turn solid foods into liquid solutions of nutrients to be absorbed in the intestinal tract and used to build all body systems, including cells, tissues, organs, glands, hormones, etc.

Betaine Hydrochloride

Betaine hydrochloride (or simply betaine) helps create an acidic environment to facilitate the activity of pepsin. The stomach manufactures hydrochloric acid to break down proteins. But, as people age, they may produce less hydrochloric acid, which can affect the amount of protein they can break down and ultimately absorb. Inefficient protein digestion can affect the viability of the intestinal flora that feast on these compounds. Prior to 1993, betaine hydrochloride was available over the counter as a digestive aid. But since then, it is only sold in supplement form. Traditional use of betaine includes tired blood, arterial support, low potassium levels, yeast imbalance, liver support, and more.

Alpha-Amylase

Alpha-amylase digests starches, converting complex carbohydrates into simple sugars. Amylase also plays a role in blood sugar regulation and can contribute to overall gut health by supporting healthy digestion. Amylase is secreted primarily by the pancreas and salivary glands.

Pepsin

Pepsin is an enzyme that is produced naturally in the body to aid in the digestion of dietary proteins. Pepsin helps pre-digest proteins in the stomach. By aiding in the breakdown of proteins, pepsin can help relieve symptoms of stomach upset, bloating and gas. Although pepsin is a powerful enzyme, it only breaks down proteins in the presence of hydrochloric acid. Pepsin also helps to detoxify the bowel by promoting better digestion which leads to improved intestinal transit time and better elimination of metabolic waste.

Bromelain

Bromelain is a protein-digesting enzyme mixture derived from the fruit, juice and stem of the pineapple plant. Pineapple has been used for centuries in Central and South America to treat indigestion. Bromelain was first isolated from the pineapple plant in the late 1800s. Bromelain may also help support a healthy respiratory tract.

Papain

Papain is an enzyme derived from unripe papaya fruit and leaves. It aids in the digestion of protein-rich foods, especially meat. Papain is also used as a natural meat tenderizer.

Bile Salts

Bile salts make fats soluble, preparing them for further digestion by lipase. Bile salts bind to fats and oils and emulsify them in the gut. Bile salts may help with gas and bloating stemming from inefficient digestion. Bile salts also help the body absorb fat-soluble vitamins, like vitamins A, D, E, and K.

Pancreatin

Pancreatin is a combination of pancreatic juices that aids in the digestion of a variety of foodstuffs. After food reaches the small intestine, pancreatin further digests protein, carbohydrates and fats in the small intestine. Pancreatin also helps to support the pancreas.

Lipase

Lipase is the main enzyme that breaks down dietary fats (lipids) and oils. Lipase is also needed for absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, including vitamins A, D, E and K. Supplemental lipase is especially helpful for people who have difficulty digesting high-fat foods, including nuts. Lipase may help reduce gas, bloating, and stomach fullness after eating a high-fat meal.
