Olive Oil
Olive oil is one of the primary sources of oleic acid, a long-chain fatty acid favored for its use in enhancing the transdermal (through the skin) delivery and absorption of active ingredients in topical preparations. Olive oil is said to have a protective toning effect on the skin and to positively influence the skin’s moisture content. Olive oil also contains bioactive polyphenols that can significantly reduce wrinkles and promote skin health.
Beeswax
Beeswax is a natural wax made by honey bees that has been used medicinally for thousands of years. Beeswax helps moisturize the skin, locking in moisture to soften and rehydrate the skin. Beeswax has been used traditionally for treating a variety of skin conditions, as well as chapped lips, stretch marks, burns, and even diaper rash.
Black Walnut
Traditions hold that Native Americans used many parts of the black walnut tree, including the hulls. They found them effective for numerous health concerns, including skin support. Much more recently, scientists found that black walnut hulls contain tannins with helpful skin-toning properties. Tannins also provide antioxidant protection against free radicals.
Myrrh
Myrrh has moisturizing properties that have been known to be beneficial in protecting skin and encouraging skin repair. Myrrh can also help soothe and moisturize chapped or cracked skin. Ancient Egyptians used myrrh to prevent aging and maintain healthy skin.
White Oak Bark
White oak bark is naturally rich in tannins, which have astringent (or toning) qualities on skin tissues. Tannins also provide antioxidant protection against free radicals.
Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus oil has been used in traditional Aboriginal medicine for wound-healing and to combat fungal problems. Eucalyptus oil is also a favorite addition to muscle rubs and joint ointments. Applied topically, eucalyptus oil provides a warming effect, stimulating blood flow to the skin to help relieve discomfort and soothe irritated, red or swollen skin. Eucalyptol, the primary active ingredient in eucalyptus oil, is responsible for the oil's benefits for soothin discomfort.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is a common ingredient in skincare products and has been used for over 50 years in clinical dermatology. Topical vitamin E is widely used as a skin conditioner and moisturizer and may help relieve dry, itchy skin. Vitamin E may also help prevent free radical damage to the skin—such damage can contribute to the appearance of skin wrinkles and prematurely aged skin. Vitamin E also functions as an antioxidant to preserve topical preparations containing fatty acid blends and increase their stability and efficacy.*
