According to Eastern philosophy, life permits us to work with what we have on earth here and now—body and mind—in order to reclaim and maintain the innate energy and spirit that reside within us. Energy and spirit must be awakened, nurtured and balanced in order for life to flourish.

Under TCM philosophy, Lung Support is designed to optimize human "metal" and supplement the needs of a weakened metal constitution.

Astragalus

Astragalus is native to China, Mongolia and North Korea and has been used in TCM for more than 2,000 years. It is still considered one of the 50 fundamental herbs of TCM. Astragalus was often used as a tonic to increase overall vitality in older people or those who feel weak or fatigued. Astragalus is used to help clear retained water from the body and improve the flow of internal energy or "chi".

Aster

Aster is native to Siberia, Mongolia, northern China, Korea and Japan. It has been used in TCM for at least 2,000 years to support respiratory health and moisen the lungs. Aster is said to direct energy or "chi" downward to help reduce excess mucus and relieve cough.

Platycodon

Platycodon originated in the meadows of China, Korea and Japan. TCM notes its ability to expel phlegm and support respiratory health. Chinese herbalists often use platycodon in formulas for relieving symptoms of respiratory congestion and throat discomfort.

Anemarrhena

Anemarrhena, a perennial plant belonging to the lily family, is native to Japan, Korea, Mongolia and China. Anemarrhena is commonly wild-harvested and is also cultivated for medicinal use. Anemarrhena has been used in TCM for 2,000 years to provide moisture to the lungs and support respiratory health. Its traditional uses include addressing lung problems, expelling excess mucus, and easing coughs and dry throat.

Asian Ginseng

Asian ginseng root has been used in Asia for centuries to benefit both mental and physical health. Ginseng root has been traditionally consumed to boost energy, improve memory and concentration, promote endurance and exercise performance, enhance immune system activity, and elevate mood. As an adaptogen, ginseng helps optimize bodily functions, supports the body’s efforts to achieve balance and adapt to stress, and is commonly used to promote energy and vitality. Active constituents in the plant, called ginsenosides, support the glandular system and boost the immune system.

Bupleurum

Bupleurum is the most important “cooling herb” according to Chinese herbology. Bupleurum is a bitter herb that is believed to aid the flow of "chi", or the body’s living force, thereby strengthening the body against stress. Bupleurum also strengthens the immune response and is often used in TCM to relieve respiratory congestion and provide relief from cold symptoms.

Ophiopogon

Ophiopogon is used in Chinese herbology to support yin and lung function. The plant is said to have tissue moisturizing properties, moistening the lungs and intestines. TCM considers ophiopogon helpful for dry coughs, dryness of the mouth, and throat discomfort.

Schisandra

Schisandra has been used for centuries for its important adaptogenic benefits. Widely used in TCM, schisandra berries are called the five-flavored fruit because they possesses a remarkable taste that is sour, sweet, bitter, salty and pungent. Schisandra is known to support the body’s efforts to clear waste from the respiratory system and enhance energy in the lungs. Schisandra is used in TCM for coughs and wheezing due to lung deficiency.

Tangerine Rind

Tangerine rind, or peel, supports the body’s efforts to clear waste from the respiratory system and enhances energy in the lungs. In TCM, the rind of this citrus fruit is used to dry up "dampness" in the lungs. It is also used to stop hiccups and combat fatigue and loss of appetite.

Licorice

Chinese licorice root has been a key part of many Chinese herbal formulas for thousands of years. TCM has relied on licorice root to provide respiratory and digestive system support. Most Chinese herb combinations use licorice to balance the other herbs and to promote vitality. It has a reputation for helping the entire body maintain balance and for promoting well-being.
