Cellular Detox is designed to naturally support a healthy digestive system, while promoting intestinal cleansing.
The digestive system is responsible for feeding the entire body, and it, along with the intestinal system, must operate freely to ensure the efficient elimination of toxins from the body.
The colon, in particular, must function properly to promote the elimination of waste materials from the body.
The primary herbs in Cellular Detox include gentian root, spirulina, fenugreek, slippery elm, cascara sagrada and safflowers. These herbs provide support for the digestive and intestinal systems.
Secondary herbs in this formula include Oregon grape and goldenseal, both natural sources of berberine, which supports gastric function and intestinal transit. Uva ursi and dandelion help support healthy urinary function.
Gentian Root
Gentian root is known for its bitter taste and has been used traditionally to support the digestive system. Gentian root has been used in both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine. Europeans knew the benefits of gentian as a digestive tonic. During the Middle Ages, gentian was used to promote appetite and relieve stomach upset, nausea and gas. Gentian root stimulates the release of digestive fluids and bile. Gentian is also said to support liver and gallbladder functions and aid detoxification.
Spirulina
Spirulina is a super-food, rich in easily absorbed nutrients. Spirulina contains two-and-a-half times more vitamin B12 than liver, is the best botanical source of complete protein available, and contains several antioxidant-rich carotenoids. It has been used traditionally as food for its nutritional values dating back to the 16th century. Today, NASA uses spirulina for space travel due to the wide range of nutrients provided in a small amount. Spirulina provides support for the nervous system and healthy brain function. Spirulina also has chelating effects on heavy metals, and it is believed to support the body's detox processes by helping to eliminate these heavy metals.
Cascara Sagrada
Cascara sagrada helps cleanse the colon of damaging toxins and waste. It acts as a natural herbal laxative, increasing the content of water in the bowel and stimulating the movement of the intestines to promote the emptying of the colon. The end result is that toxins spend less time in the bowel, thereby reducing the time that they can affect intestinal cells or be absorbed into the body. Cascara’s hydroxyanthracene derivatives also support the body’s detoxification processes.
Fenugreek
Fenugreek has been used traditionally to support the digestive tract. Fenugreek contains mucilage, a gel-like compound that causes the herb to swell in water. This creates a viscous, fibrous substance that provides a soothing effect on the mucosal lining of the gut. Fenugreek is commonly used to support digestion and may also help in the management of metabolic health.
Slippery Elm
Slippery elm is a species of elm native to eastern North America. Slippery elm contains up to 50% mucilage, which supports delicate body tissues. When mixed with water, the soft, inner bark of the slippery elm tree becomes gel-like and soothing. Slippery elm has been used traditionally to support the digestive system and the mucosal lining of the gut. It also absorbs toxins from the bowel and helps maintain normal elimination. In the 1800s, Native Americans used slippery elm for a variety of benefits, including support for gastrointestinaI tract health to soothe intestinal tissues and for digestive and immune support.
Safflower
Safflower has been used traditionally to help support and strengthen liver and gallbladder function. Safflower also provides nutritional aid for the intestinal system to support intestinal cleansing and the normal removal of toxins from the body.
Black Walnut
Through the ages, black walnut hulls have proven to be an effective yet gentle support to the intestinal system, prized for their cleansing properties. Native Americans used many parts of the black walnut tree, including the nuts, bark, leaves and hulls. They found black walnuts effective for skin support, nervous system health and for providing intestinal system support. Black walnut has been used by herbalists for targeted detoxification for hundreds of years. Black walnut contains bitter compounds and naphthoquinones, like juglone, that protect the intestinal system in its battle against invaders.
Yellow Dock
Yellow dock provides mild colon stimulating activity and astringent properties to keep your bowels functioning properly. Yellow dock also supports liver function and nourishes the urinary system. Yellow dock contains active principles, including anthraquinones responsible for its mild colon-stimulating activity, and tannins, which provide an astringent effect. A member of the buckwheat family, yellow dock grows abundantly throughout the U.S.
Dandelion
The entire Dandelion plant is edible—the flowers, the leaves and the roots. This ubiquitous plant supports digestion and is reported to have tonic effects on the liver and gallbladder. Traditionally used as a liver tonic, dandelion contains polysaccharides that may support liver function and help detoxify the liver. Animal studies show that antioxidants found in dandelion root (including caffeic acid and luteolin) may help protect the liver and support healthy cholesterol levels.
Oregon Grape Root
Oregon grape root has been traditionally used for circulatory and digestive ailments and to support immune system function. Oregon grape root also supports the liver and gallbladder. Oregon grape root contains a powerful immune-supporting alkaloid called berberine, which has been shown to promote gut health and proper gastric function and intestinal transit.
Uva Ursi
Uva ursi leaf has long been linked to the urinary system and kidney health. Uva ursi has traditionally been used to help ease irritation of the urinary tract and support healthy urinary function. Uva ursi has natural diuretic properties that help flush out fluids from the body, reducing swelling and lowering the presence of foreign invaders at the same time. Plus, uva ursi provides urinary astringent actions and helps support healthy microbial balance in the bladder and urinary tract. Uva ursi leaf contains arbutin, an active ingredient that combats harmful microorganisms in the urinary system and promotes a healthy inflammatory response.
Goldenseal
Goldenseal is a natural source of berberine, which is believed to support gastric function and intestinal transit. Goldenseal also provides proven immune system support. Native Americans traditionally used goldenseal to support the mucous membranes of the respiratory, digestive and urinary tracts. Herbalists of the early 20th century considered it a critical herb for stomach and intestinal issues.

Quality ingredients make a quality product. Take for instance our Kosher- and Halal-certified cascara sagrada bark. It grows in temperate rainforest areas in the US where no pesticides are used. The wild-crafted bark is never harvested until the tree is at least 10 years old, and then it is aged for at least one year to ensure potency.
Our 40+ year partnership with our cascara supplier includes personal visits to the sourcing site by Nature’s Sunshine quality specialists. Last of all, this blend features ethically sourced, non-GMO botanicals, because that’s what works best for you…and for us.
Take 2 capsules with a meal three times daily.
