Alfalfa
Alfalfa roots grow deep, providing the plant with a rich source of nutrients not always found at the ground’s surface. Alfalfa contains vital nutrients, including cleansing chlorophyll, antioxidants, vitamin C, and minerals like calcium, magnesium, potassium and iron, all of which are vital for maintaining strong bones and connective tissue like those found in the joints. Alfalfa also promotes regular bowel movements, helps maintain normal-range blood sugar levels, and supports a healthy immune response.
Horsetail
Horsetail is traditionally used for skin, nail, hair and bone health. Recent evidence demonstrates extracts of horsetail support cellular health in bones, and its silica content is believed to contribute to the absorption and use of calcium. Horsetail plant contains the highest amount of silica of all known herbs. Silica is found in connective tissues throughout the body and is important in the building and normal repair of healthy connective tissue. Horsetail is also a rich source of calcium and other minerals necessary for tissue repair, including copper and zinc.
Bromelain
Bromelain is a protein-digesting enzyme mixture derived from the fruit, juice and stem of the pineapple plant. Bromelain may also promote a healthy respiratory tract by reducing the swelling of mucous membranes during times of respiratory stress. Bromelain helps maintain clear nasal passages and supports immune system function. Plus, bromelain helps reduce swelling and discomfort and promotes a healthy inflammatory response.
Celery Seed
Celery seed has been used for thousands of years as a natural medicine in the Eastern world. Ancient Ayurvedic medicine employed celery seed to treat water retention, poor digestion, sluggish liver problems, skin disorders, and even joint complaints. Celery seed contains phytochemicals (plant compounds) that promote a healthy inflammatory response and help ease joint discomfort and stiffness. Celery seed may also help reduce uric acid levels in the body. High levels of uric acid can lead to the formation of uric acid crystals in the joints, which can irritate joint tissues and cause swelling and intense discomfort.
Black Cohosh
Black cohosh has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for thousands of years to promote general health and overall wellness. Black cohosh was also widely used by Americans in the 1800s for joint health. Black cohosh supports the body's effort to balance hormone levels and help ease nervous tension. Black cohosh is also known to offer benefits for the musculoskeletal system, providing antispasmodic properties to help relax cramping muscles and muscle spasms.
Yarrow
Yarrow has been used for medicinal purposes for more than three thousand years in both traditional and alternative medicine. Yarrow provides several health benefits, including antioxidant activity, promoting a healthy inflammatory response, supporting immune function, and relieving aches and discomfort. Yarrow also boasts excellent antioxidant activity. Yarrow has been used effectively as a topical remedy for cuts, bruises, rashes, burns, and minor wounds.
Capsicum
Capsicum has a warming strength that stimulates digestion and enhances blood flow, thus promoting healthy circulation of the blood. Widely known for its ability to stimulate circulatory activity, capsicum may promote healthy blood flow in the extremities. Capsicum is added to many herbal formulas as an effective catalyst to help the body transport and use the companion ingredients. Capsicum contains the active ingredient capsaicin, which can help relieve aches and discomfort and is often found in over-the-counter topical ointments and creams. Capsaicin also promotes a healthy inflammatory response.
Valerian
Valerian root provides nervous system support, including promoting feelings of relaxation. Valerian's ability to relax the central nervous system, decrease levels of anxiousness and stress, promote feelings of calm, and enhance sleep are known to millions the world over. Valerian also helps relax tense, cramping muscles and may ease joint discomfort.
Yucca
Yucca plants are tolerant to drought, wind, and salt, which is why most of these species thrive in the arid zones of the southwestern U.S. and Mexico. Native Americans used yucca for head discomfort and joint soreness. Yucca is known to provide antioxidant effects and promote a healthy inflammatory response. Yucca contains large amounts of steroidal saponins, which support structural health due to their influence on joint integrity and function. Yucca saponins also help decrease levels of proinflammatory cytokines in the body.
White Willow Bark
White willow bark has been used to alleviate aches and discomfort since ancient times. White willow bark has been taken for centuries to relieve sore muscles. Records show that the ancient Greeks chewed on willow tree bark to help dull discomforts. White willow bark contains the active ingredient salicin, which relieves discomfort and doesn’t irritate the stomach. Salicin is a natural compound, similar to the chemical used in aspirin. Salicin appears to help prevent the production of prostaglandins, hormone-like substances that affect several bodily functions, including inflammatory processes.
