How It Works

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is essential for maintaining good eyesight, promoting normal growth, and supporting healthy immune system defenses. Vitamin A is an important component of cell growth and multiplication and is needed for healthy skin. It is also used to form the epithelial cells lining the digestive, respiratory, reproductive and urinary tracts and in all tissue linings of the body. Vitamin A is also required for the digestion of protein. Plus, vitamin A provides antioxidant activity.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C performs many functions involving the immune system and tissue development. Plus, the adrenal glands need large amounts of this nutrient in order to support immunity and help produce energy. Vitamin C is also involved in iron absorption and in the syntheses of enzymes, hormones and proteins. As an antioxidant, vitamin C works together with vitamin E to combat free radicals.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E helps in the production of certain enzymes that are needed to maintain overall health, prevent premature aging, and keep tissues supple. Vitamin E also helps to maintain the fluidity of the blood and is necessary for maintenance of the skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscle membranes. And, vitamin E helps maintain and increase the storage of vitamin A and iron in the body. Vitamin E has high antioxidant potency and, because it is fat-soluble, it helps safeguard cell membranes from damage by free radicals.

Zinc

Zinc is key to hundreds of important functions, including sugar and protein metabolism, DNA formation, and energy production. Zinc is also needed for proper growth and development of bones, and it helps strengthen your immune system. More zinc is found in the body than any other trace element, except for iron. Zinc acts as a co-factor for important enzymes that contribute to the proper functioning of the antioxidant defense system. Plus, zinc supports the prostate gland and healthy testosterone levels.

Manganese

Manganese is an essential nutrient for intracellular activities where it plays an important role in energy production, immune response, and antioxidant defense. Manganese also supports the muscular and skeletal systems, is essential for calcium absorption and blood building, and is involved in the metabolism of glucose and lipids (fats).

Potassium

Potassium is a mineral that your body needs to work properly. Potassium helps generate energy and is essential for regulating blood pressure and maintaining healthy heart function and normal heartbeat. Potassium works alongside magnesium to support cardiovascular health. Potassium is also essential to the urinary system as it supports kidney function. Plus, potassium is needed for proper nerve transmission, muscle contraction, and pH balance (acidity and alkalinity). And, adequate potassium levels are vital for the body's active transport pump, which moves nutrients into cells.

Licorice

Licorice root has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for thousands of years to provide respiratory, digestive and reproductive system support. Most Chinese herb combinations use licorice to balance the other herbs and to promote vitality. It has a reputation for helping the entire body maintain balance (particularly helpful to women who menstruate) and for promoting well-being. Licorice root is also regarded as an adrenal/pituitary tonic.

Alfalfa

Alfalfa is rich in nutrients, including cleansing chlorophyll, antioxidants, vitamin C and minerals like calcium, potassium and iron. Alfalfa has been used traditionally as a general tonic to help maintain well-being. Alfalfa supports healthy, enriched blood, due in part to its natural iron content. Alfalfa also supports a healthy immune response. Other benefits of alfalfa include detoxifying the urinary tract, promoting regular bowel movements, maintaining normal-range blood sugar levels, and supporting the pituitary gland—an essential part of brain health.

Black Walnut

Through the ages, black walnut hulls have proven to be an effective yet gentle support to the intestinal system, prized for their cleansing properties. Black walnut also supports the immune system. Black walnut is a rich source of chromium, a trace mineral that supports healthy blood sugar balance. Black walnut hulls are also high in iodine, an important mineral which helps nourish the thyroid gland and supports thyroid function and healthy metabolism.

Parsley

Parsley is a rich source of nutrients, including numerous vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. For example, parsley contains vitamins A and C which are essential for healthy immune system function. Parsley also contains potassium, which helps balance sodium levels, and manganese to help manage calcium levels and nourish the nerves. Parsley contains a lot of chlorophyll too, which acts as a natural deodorizer. Centuries of folk use teach us that parsley was employed for urinary and kidney support, detoxification and more.

Thyme

Thyme has been used for many centuries for its flavoring, culinary and medicinal properties. Before the onset of refrigeration, people regularly cooked with thyme to help protect against spoilage. Thyme can also help soothe digestive issues like gas, bloating, and cramping, and may support the gut microbiome. Plus, thyme's protective powers have led to its modern use as a detoxification agent and immune system booster. Thyme has been used for respiratory tract support, specifically for coughs, sore throat, and expelling mucus, as well as for menstrual cramps. According to research, the active constituent, thymol, provides antioxidant and immune-modulatory benefits

Dandelion

Dandelion is a rich source of many important minerals and vitamins. This ubiquitous plant supports digestion and is reported to have tonic effects on the liver and gallbladder. Traditionally used as a liver tonic, dandelion contains polysaccharides that may support liver function and help detoxify the liver. Animal studies show that antioxidants found in dandelion root (including caffeic acid and luteolin) may help protect the liver and support healthy cholesterol levels. Dandelion is also used for maintenance of the pancreas.

Dong Quai

Dong Quai root is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to invigorate blood circulation. Pronounced “don kwy,” it is considered the queen of herbs by the Chinese and has been used in TCM for thousands of years specifically for PMS and sexual health. Also known as female ginseng, dong quai benefits the circulatory, nervous and immune systems and has been used by Chinese physicians to enrich the blood, as well as regulate menstruation, calm nerves, and soothe the intestines.

Eleuthero

Eleuthero root is an adaptogenic herb that supports energy and helps maintain balance in the body. Adaptogens help the body "adapt" to environmental stress, including physical and emotional stress. As an adaptogen, eleuthero acts as a tonic at the cellular level and offers beneficial support for the nervous system. Eleuthero is commonly used to support energy, stamina and endurance, and may help with concentration. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), eleuthero is also considered an adrenal tonic.

Kelp

Kelp is a type of algae (or sea vegetable) that is highly nutritious and loaded with vitamins, minerals, and trace nutrients, including iodine, potassium and zinc. Iodine is an essential trace mineral that supports glandular function, metabolism and energy levels. Kelp is particularly important to the thyroid, a gland acting as the body’s energy thermostat. Kelp's rich supply of nutrients also supports healthy digestion, immunity, proper fluid balance, and respiratory health, as it promotes general well-being.

Schisandra

Schisandra has been used for centuries for its important adaptogenic benefits. Widely used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), schisandra berries are called the five-flavored fruit because they possesses a remarkable taste that is sour, sweet, bitter, salty and pungent. This renowned Chinese tonic herb is used to balance the 12 meridians (energy channels) and energize the five constitutional types. Schisandra also enables the body to respond more quickly to stress. Plus, schisandra's bitter compounds also support circulation and nervous system function.

Uva Ursi

Uva ursi leaf has long been linked to the urinary system and kidney health. Uva ursi has traditionally been used to help ease irritation of the urinary tract and support healthy urinary function. Uva ursi has natural diuretic properties that help flush out fluids from the body, reducing swelling and lowering the presence of foreign invaders at the same time. Plus, uva ursi provides urinary astringent actions and helps support healthy microbial balance in the bladder and urinary tract. Uva ursi leaf contains arbutin, an active ingredient that combats harmful microorganisms in the urinary system and promotes a healthy inflammatory response.

Our organic, non-GMO kelp grows on rocky shores in the North Atlantic. It is wild-harvested at Spring tide by skilled reapers who use small paddleboats and special rakes to protect the plant and its natural habitat. Their techniques ensure sustainability as they remove portions of the kelp without damaging the core of the algae.
