Maintain a healthy colon and support digestion with soluble and insoluble fiber found in Nature's Three.
Many people don't get enough dietary fiber in their daily diet. The typical American diet just isn’t cutting it, with healthy fibers often being processed right out of the foods we eat before we can even eat them. And that can spell trouble for long-term health.
Fiber is the part of your food that’s not digested, so it can do all sorts of good things like help move stool through your colon with a scouring action that keeps carcinogens (and everything else, for that matter) from sitting too long.
Fiber is a good way to keep a smooth-running digestive system. Plus, fiber provides food for the billions of healthy microbes found in the gut.
Because fiber slows your body’s breakdown of carbohydrates as well as sugar absorption, it’s a great way to maintain normal blood glucose levels.
Fiber is also good for maintaining normal cholesterol and supporting normal blood pressure.
And, if you’re going for a little weight loss, fiber-rich foods generally require more chewing time, which gives your body time to register a full signal, making you far less likely to overeat. Eating a high-fiber diet has been shown to increase satiety to provide a feeling of fullness and assist weight management efforts.
Each 15-calorie serving of Nature's Three provides 2 grams of dietary fiber from 3 sources to help support your digestive system and keep you moving and feeling great!
There are two basic types of fiber:
Soluble fiber, found in foods such as fruits, seeds, brown rice, barley and oats works mainly by absorbing water to form a gel-like substance that helps move food along the digestive tract more slowly. It also helps to produce a softer stool. And, soluble fiber chemically prevents or reduces the absorption of certain substances into the bloodstream. In addition, soluble fiber helps you feel full and helps maintain healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
Insoluble fiber, as the name suggests, does not absorb or dissolve in water. Instead, it creates bulk, which makes stool easier to pass. If your stool is watery or loose, it could be a sign that you may need more insoluble fiber in your diet. This type of fiber also helps prevent constipation. Insoluble fiber is found in whole grains, dark-green leafy veggies, legumes and the outside of seeds.
If your body isn’t used to getting the proper amount of fiber, you may want to introduce fiber little by little throughout the day to allow the bacteria in your gut to adjust properly. Too much fiber in one sitting can lead to bloating, gas and cramping. Also, too much fiber without enough water can have similar outcomes.
Psyllium Hulls
Psyllium has the highest level of soluble fiber known—more than eight times that of oat bran. Psyllium grows natively in India and parts of Asia and has been used to support gut health and aid intestinal elimination for nearly 5,000 years. An excellent source of soluble fiber, psyllium hulls absorb several times their weight in liquid, increasing intestinal bulk to ease the movement of digested food through the gut. Soluble fiber from psyllium hulls also interferes with the absorption of emulsified fat from the small intestine and encourages the elimination of these bound fat molecules. Psyllium hulls fiber may also provide a feeling of fullness and help reduce food intake, enabling you to eat less while staying satisfied longer. Plus, psyllium hulls can play an important part in helping the body support normal-range cholesterol levels.
Apple Fiber
Apple fiber, also called pectin, is a high-quality source of soluble and insoluble dietary fiber. The soluble fiber in apples binds to cholesterol in the gastrointestinal tract and slows glucose absorption which together support a healthy heart. Apple fiber also helps soften stools and promotes bowel regularity. Plus, apple fiber is a prebiotic that helps stimulate the growth and activity of beneficial bacteria in the gut.
Oat Bran
Oat bran is a wholesome source of water-soluble fiber. Oat bran also provides important nutrients such as vitamin B1, iron, magnesium, potassium and zinc, plus small amounts of vitamin B6, folate, niacin and calcium. And, oat bran contains antioxidant polyphenols. Oat bran is linked to many health benefits, including healthy bowel function, weight management, and the maintenance of normal-range blood sugar and cholesterol levels. Oat bran is naturally gluten-free.
