Restore & Sustain
Known as “the wonder from Down Under”, tea tree oil comes from only one source—the leaves of the Melaleuca tree which is native to Australia.
Native aboriginal people of Australia have traditionally used tea tree oil as an herbal medicine for coughs and colds and to kill germs.
According to the University of Sydney, “In 1770, Lieutenant James Cook used the leaves to treat scurvy among his sailors. By the 1930s and 1940s, tea tree oil was widely celebrated as an antiseptic treatment. During the Second World War, Australian soldiers were issued with tea tree oil in their first aid kits.”
Tea tree oil has a clear, pale-yellow color and a sharp, fresh, clean smell that makes it a popular ingredient in shampoos, lotions and cleansers.
Dilute a few drops of tea tree oil with an equal amount of water and dab on acne blemishes, or, use tea tree oil to make an effective mask for skin breakouts.
Tea tree oil is also popular to use on the scalp and feet which may help relieve itchiness due to dandruff or athlete’s foot.
Plus, tea tree oil can be used in a variety of household cleaning tasks. A couple drops can be added to a load of wash to boost laundry power, and it can also be used to make air fresheners.
Add about 5 drops of tea tree oil per 2 cups of water to create a natural household cleaning solution; or double the concentration to create an antiseptic and mold/mildew buster.
