Evening Primrose Oil
Evening primrose oil became a popular folk remedy in Europe in the 17th century where it was known as “King’s cure-all.”
Evening primrose is a plant native to North and South America with yellow flowers that open at sunset and close during the day. It also grows throughout Europe and parts of Asia. The seeds naturally contain important Omega-6 essential fatty acids known as GLA (gamma-linolenic acid) and linoleic acid.
Omega-6 fatty acids—like GLA and linoleic acid—function as precursors to prostaglandins in the body.
Prostaglandins are hormone-like compounds that perform hundreds of important bodily functions and processes, including immune system support, inflammatory regulation, heart health, normal-range blood pressure maintenance, nerve function, skin and joint health, and hormonal responses.
Linoleic acid is also an important structural component of cell membranes and supports cell membrane properties like fluidity, flexibility and permeability.
Women have traditionally used evening primorose oil at certain times of the month to support symptoms associated with their menstrual cycle such as mild mood changes, breast tenderness and cramps.*
Evening primrose oil may also help support the mature woman’s body as she encounters normal glandular challenges and physical changes.
Some evidence suggests that evening primrose oil may support the health of brain tissue, provide antioxidant protection, enhance circulation, and promote a healthy inflammatory response.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that supports circulation, helps to maintain the fluidity of the blood, and is necessary for maintenance of the skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscle membranes.
Vitamin E also assists in the production of certain enzymes that are needed to maintain overall health, prevent premature aging and keep tissues supple.
Vitamin E helps to maintain the fluidity of the blood and supports normal-range cholesterol levels.
And, vitamin E helps maintain and increase the storage of vitamin A and iron in the body.
