Juniper
Juniper berries are found on the evergreen juniper shrub, which grows widely throughout the Northern Hemisphere. Juniper berries have been used traditionally to support the urinary system and help the body maintain proper fluid balance. In European folk medicine, juniper berries were also used for head discomfort, as well as sore and swollen joints. Juniper berries help the body maintain normal levels of uric acid, a waste product that is filtered out by the kidneys and excreted in urine. Research suggests that juniper berries help increase urine flow without the loss of electrolytes.
Capsicum
One of the hottest spices, capsicum has a warming strength and is often added to herbal formulas as an effective catalyst to help the body transport and use the companion ingredients. Capsicum enhances blood flow, thus promoting healthy circulation of the blood. Best-known for its ability to stimulate circulatory activity, capsicum supports healthy blood pressure, strengthens the heart, and helps promote blood flow in the extremities. Capsicum also provides antioxidant and immune system benefits. Plus, preliminary research suggests that capsicum may support kidney health by improving blood flow to the kidneys and promoting urine flow and sodium excretion.
Goldenseal
Goldenseal provides proven immune system support. Goldenseal root contains powerful alkaloids—berberine, hydrastine and canadine—that help the body maintain strong immunity. These constituents have been known to help support the mucous membranes that line the urinary tract. Research suggests that berberine may help prevent foreign invaders from sticking to the lining of the bladder and urethra. Plus, berberine has been shown to support gut health, which directly affects the immune system.
Parsley
Parsley is a rich source of nutrients, including numerous vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. For example, parsley contains vitamins A and C which are essential for healthy immune system function. Parsley also contains potassium, which helps balance sodium levels, and manganese to help manage calcium levels and nourish the nerves. Parsley contains a lot of chlorophyll too, which acts as a natural deodorizer. Centuries of folk use teach us that parsley was employed for urinary and kidney support, detoxification and more.
Ginger
Ginger has been used as both food and medicine in Asia for thousands of years. Traditionally, ginger has helped with a laundry list of complaints, including cold, fever, joint discomfort, aches, cramps, nervous system support, oral health, circulatory health, plus indigestion, gas, nausea and vomiting. Ginger also helps soothe intestinal irritation and promotes a healthy inflammatory response. Plus, recent research suggests that ginger's antioxidant properties may help protect the kidneys from oxidative damage.
Eleuthero
Eleuthero root is an adaptogenic herb that supports energy and helps maintain balance in the body. Adaptogens help the body "adapt" to environmental stress, including physical and emotional stress. As an adaptogen, eleuthero acts as a tonic at the cellular level and offers beneficial support for the nervous system. Eleuthero is commonly used to support energy, stamina and endurance, and may help with concentration. Eleuthero may also help support a healthy inflammatory response. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), eleuthero is considered an adrenal tonic and is also used to nourish the kidneys.
Uva Ursi
Uva ursi leaf has long been linked to the urinary system and kidney health. Uva ursi has traditionally been used to help ease irritation of the urinary tract and support healthy urinary function. Uva ursi has natural diuretic properties that help flush out fluids from the body, reducing swelling and lowering the presence of foreign invaders at the same time. Plus, uva ursi provides urinary astringent actions and helps support healthy microbial balance in the bladder and urinary tract. Uva ursi leaf contains arbutin, an active ingredient that combats harmful microorganisms in the urinary system and promotes a healthy inflammatory response. Arbutin may also positively influence the composition and balance of the gut microbiome.
Queen of the Meadow
Queen of the Meadow herb has been traditionally used for the urinary system, as it helps keep fluids of the body balanced. Queen of the Meadow promotes urine flow and can flush out the bladder and kidneys, helping to remove waste and excess fluid. In addition, Queen of the Meadow contains active ingredients called salicylates, which help relieve aches and discomfort and don’t irritate the stomach. Salicylates are natural compounds, similar to the chemical used in aspirin. Salicylates appear to help prevent the production of prostaglandins—hormone-like substances that affect several bodily functions, including inflammatory processes.
Marshmallow
Marshmallow root is well-known for its soothing properties, especially for the mucous membranes. Since the urinary tract and bladder are lined with these protective membranes, marshmallow helps the body get rid of irritating substances that often collect or stick to these membranes. Some research suggests that marshmallow root may also act as a natural and mild diuretic to flush out excess fluid.
Proprietary blend of Juniper berry, Capsicum fruit, Goldenseal root extract, Parsley leaves, Ginger rhizome, Eleuthero root, Uva ursi leaves, Queen of the meadow leaves, and Marshmallow root.
Our Uva ursi grows primarily in eastern and southern Europe. Local residents go into the hills to collect the leaves in December and January when arbutin, an active constituent, is at the highest levels. These folks respresent the latest generation in a long line of wild-crafters who have been harvesting this plant to provide maximum sustainability for future use.
