Dong Quai
Dong quai is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to enrich the blood and invigorate circulation. Pronounced “don kwy,” it is considered the queen of herbs by the Chinese and is China’s most popular herb for women and contains nutrients that female glands need. TCM practitioners also use dong quai to restore the body's vital energy know as "qi" or "chi", and to return the body to a state of natural balance. A relative of celery and carrots, Chinese physicians use dong quai to help regulate menstruation, calm the nerves, and soothe the intestines.
Juniper
Juniper berries are found on the evergreen juniper shrub, which grows widely throughout the Northern Hemisphere. Juniper berries have been used traditionally to support the urinary system and help the body maintain proper fluid balance. In European folk medicine, juniper berries were also used for head discomfort, as well as sore and swollen joints. Juniper berries help the body maintain normal levels of uric acid, a waste product that is filtered out by the kidneys and excreted in urine. Research suggests that juniper berries help increase urine flow without the loss of electrolytes. Juniper berries also help stimulate the production of digestive fluids and have been used to settle the stomach and improve appetite.
Parsley
Parsley is a rich source of nutrients, including numerous vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. For example, parsley contains vitamins A and C which are essential for healthy immune system function. Parsley also contains potassium, which helps balance sodium levels, and manganese to help manage calcium levels and nourish the nerves. Parsley contains a lot of chlorophyll too, which acts as a natural deodorizer. Centuries of folk use teach us that parsley was employed for urinary and kidney support, detoxification and more.
Uva Ursi
Uva ursi leaf has long been linked to the urinary system and kidney health. Uva ursi has traditionally been used to help ease irritation of the urinary tract and support healthy urinary function. Uva ursi has natural diuretic properties that help flush out fluids from the body, reducing swelling and lowering the presence of foreign invaders at the same time. Plus, uva ursi provides urinary astringent actions and helps support healthy microbial balance in the bladder and urinary tract. Uva ursi leaf contains arbutin, an active ingredient that combats harmful microorganisms in the urinary system and promotes a healthy inflammatory response.
Ginger
Ginger has been used as both food and medicine in Asia for thousands of years. Traditionally, ginger has helped with a laundry list of complaints, including cold, fever, joint discomfort, aches, cramps, nervous system support, oral health, circulatory health, plus indigestion, gas, nausea and vomiting. Ginger also helps soothe intestinal irritation and promotes a healthy inflammatory response. Plus, recent research suggests that ginger's antioxidant properties may help protect the kidneys from oxidative damage.
Marshmallow
Marshmallow root is well-known for its soothing properties, especially for the mucous membranes. Since the urinary tract and bladder are lined with these protective membranes, marshmallow helps the body get rid of irritating substances that often collect or stick to these membranes. Some research suggests that marshmallow root may also act as a natural and mild diuretic to flush out excess fluid.
Goldenseal
Goldenseal provides proven immune system support. Goldenseal root contains powerful alkaloids—berberine, hydrastine and canadine—that help the body maintain strong immunity. These constituents have been known to help support the mucous membranes that line the urinary tract. Research suggests that berberine may help prevent foreign invaders from sticking to the lining of the bladder and urethra. Plus, berberine has been shown to support gut health, which directly affects the immune system.
Proprietary blend of Dong quai root, Juniper berry, Parsley leaf, Uva ursi leaf, Ginger rhizome, Marshmallow root and Goldenseal root extract.
Our Uva ursi grows primarily in eastern and southern Europe. Local residents go into the hills to collect the leaves in December and January when arbutin, an active constituent, is at the highest levels. These folks respresent the latest generation in a long line of wild-crafters who have been harvesting this plant to provide maximum sustainability for future use.
